Georgia had to spend most of its win over Florida without running back Trevor Etienne. A rib injury knocked him out of the game, instantly putting his status moving forward in question. And with the Bulldogs having a massive showdown against Ole Miss upcoming, Etienne will be needed.

An update was provided on Etienne by head coach Kirby Smart on Tuesday, providing promising news. While a black non-contact jersey is being worn, Smart repeatedly said he feels good about where Etienne stands.

“Etienne I feel good about,” Smart said via Seth Emerson of The Athletic. “He felt good yesterday and did some things yesterday with our guys. … The trainer feels good about him.”

Seven carries for Etienne against Florida resulted in just 31 yards. In what was supposed to be an emotional day for him — going up against his former team in a big-time rivalry — he sadly had to watch Nate Frazier take most of the snaps due to injury.

In his update, Smart did admit Etienne is trying to “tough it out” through the week. It’s a similar message to what was given during the Florida game. Etienne was never ruled out but if he was going to play, pain was the primary issue.

“Coach Kirby Smart told me he took a pretty significant shot to the rib,” ESPN’s Holly Rowe said during a sideline update on Saturday. “He is going to try to play here in this second half but he’s in a lot of pain. So, they don’t know how much or how effective he will be. He had a conversation with Trevor coming down the tunnel and looks like he does want to play but guys, it’s a pain tolerance issue.”

Georgia heads to Oxford for the first time since 2016, Smart’s inaugural season with the program. A lot more will be on the line this go-round with College Football Football discussion certainly occurring before kickoff. The Bulldogs will be hoping to have Etienne ready to go.
