No program in the country is riding higher on the football field than the Georgia Bulldogs. As the reigning SEC champion and two-time defending national champion, they’ve added quite a bit of hardware to their trophy case down in Athens. Now, ahead of next season, oddsmakers are expecting more of the same dominance from Kirby Smart’s crew.

Vegas released some new odds for a quarter of the ‘Dawg’s next campaign following the spring. The first two are a pair of 20-plus point spreads against SEC East opponents in October. Then, after defeating them as double-digit favorites a season ago in Athens, Georgia will go to Rocky Top in their second to last game as a touchdown favorite over another division challenger in Tennessee.

  • Kentucky @ Georgia (-24)
  • Georgia (-20.5) @ Florida
  • Georgia (-7.5) @ Tennessee

The Bulldogs swept all these matchups in 2022 en route to their undefeated season. They also continued to flex their muscles in these conference wins considering they all came by double-digits.

First, Georgia ended October by nearly covering a 22-point spread over the Gators in Jacksonville. Then, a week later, they quieted a lot of noise around the Volunteers as they won their top-five matchup a season ago by two scores after dominating throughout.

Finally, Kentucky ended up playing them the closest as the ‘Dawgs left Lexington with only a 10-point win as over 20-point favorites. It was a credit to the UK defense but, at 11-0 at that point, it’s fair to say the champs may have been somewhat bored and were ready to wreak havoc in the postseason again.

Many wonder just how long this run can keep going for Georgia. Losing only one game in the last two seasons on their way to hoisting two title trophies is quite the ride to have to maintain. Still, based on these odds, it doesn’t seem as though Vegas is anticipating a let-up, especially when it comes to the ‘Dawgs in their division.

Aaron Murray taking Georgia to win third-straight national championship

There is a lot of talk about Georgia potentially winning a third-straight national championship. Former Bulldogs quarterback Aaron Murray is squarely in that camp.

The way Murray sees it, it’ll be tough to challenge the “Dawgs” in any way shape or form in 2023. He recently broke that opinion down with On3’s J.D. PicKell on The Hard Count.

“I think Georgia,” Murray said when asked to take the Bulldogs or the field. “I just think some of the elite teams have too many questions.”

“So, no, I really don’t see another team that is as balanced as Georgia is on both sides of the football,” Murray said. “I mean, you’re talking about the depth they return on defense. They’re going to be given up less than 15 points per game, probably gonna be a top-five defense in America. And I laid out kind of what they have on offense. I think they’re going to be one of the top offenses in the country as well.

“And you may have an offense that’s better or a team that’s better defensively. No one is that balanced on both sides. I think that balance is what gives Kirby and should give ‘Dog fans the confidence to go for a repeat.”
