Urban Meyer labels Georgia as best team in the country after Texas win
Urban Meyer has seen enough. Following Georgia‘s 30-15 win over Texas this past weekend, the former Ohio State head coach named the Bulldogs the best team in the country.
“I have Georgia No. 1. [The Texas game] was, by far, the best performance I’ve seen in 2024,” Meyer said during an appearance on The Herd. “They are the best team in the country. If they play like that, they are the best team in the country.”
Georgia only has one loss this season, which came against Alabama in Week 5. The defeat was a tale of two halves. The Bulldogs trailed 30-7 at halftime but outplayed the Crimson Tide in the second half, nearly pulling off the miraculous comeback win.
Although Georgia was unable to escape victorious, it used its second wind as a springboard into the back half of the season. Since the loss, Georgia is 3-0, most recently putting on a dominant performance against the Longhorns, who were the No. 1 team in the country at the time of the meeting.
In the win, Georgia’s defense was impeccable, holding Texas to 259 total yards of offense while squeezing a season-high four turnovers out of the Longhorns.

The Bulldogs never stopped attacking Texas’ backfield, finishing the night with seven sacks and 10 tackles for loss. On 27 carries, Texas only recorded 29 yards, averaging 1.1 yards per rushing attempt. Moreover, the Longhorns converted just 2-of-their-15 third-down attempts.
Even wilder, Georgia has room for improvement. The Bulldogs’ offense was lackluster in the win, with quarterback Carson Beck throwing three interceptions compared to zero interceptions. If the Bulldogs’ offense and defense can simultaneously play to their potential, it’ll be difficult for any team to defeat UGA.
Kirby Smart hasn’t lost an ounce of confidence in his QB.
“I’ve seen him do it so long,” Smart said of Beck. “I was telling somebody at practice the other day, ‘You know this kid’s been here since Covid year.’ When I think about that, I still remember going to Arkansas to play and he was part of our program and see him go through so much, he’s seen so much.
“He’s had so many reps. And I’ve just got a lot of trust and confidence in him. He’s intelligent. He makes good decisions.”
