Since establishing himself as an offensive force as a freshman, Georgia tight end Brock Bowers has been one of the best players in college football ever since. So good that On3 ranked him as the No. 4 player in all of college football for the 2023 season.

Speaking with Paul Finebaum on his show, On3’s Charles Power explained what makes Bowers so good. So good that he transcends some of the traditional ideas behind the value of a tight end as an offensive weapon.

“Brock Bowers is incredibly unique. And you hit the nail on the head, Paul. I think classifying him as a tight end is a little unfair. He’s an offensive weapon,” Power said. “If you watch Georgia play, they do a lot of their offensive stuff — it hinges on Brock Bowers. You think about leading the national champions back-to-back years in receiving, he did that as a true freshman. That’s heady stuff, Paul. Remember the SEC Championship game in 2021 where he was the best player on the field, as a true freshman? So I think he allows a lot of versatility with what they do in their offense.”

In 14 games as a true freshman, Bowers caught 56 passes for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns. He added another on the ground. He improved with a dominant sophomore season, catching 63 passes for 942 yards and 10 total touchdowns.

Bowers has arguably been Georgia’s most dangerous, consistent offensive weapon during the back-to-back national championship seasons. And he wouldn’t have gotten off to such a quick start if he wasn’t such a freaky athlete coming out of high school.

Power noted that On3 rated Bowers a five-star prospect coming out of Napa, California, and listed him as the top tight end in the 2021 signing class. Even then, his athleticism was evident.

“Its not every day you have a five star from Napa, California, that Georgia goes and recruits. And he’s a guy who completely changes their offense. You talk about just the level of athleticism. Like Kirby Smart says when they put the GPS wearables on these guys at practice, he’s off the charts, full speed. And that’s in practice, so imagine what he’s like in a game. So, he’s a complete game changer. Allows a lot of the stuff that they do with the versatility with running multiple tight ends. A guy who is unique and it’s really not fair to label him strictly as a tight end,” Power said.
