Georgia legend Vince Dooley has been released from the hospital and given the world some positivity to hang onto following a COVID scare last weekend.

To illustrate, it was reported last Saturday that Dooley entered the hospital prior to the Bulldogs’ bout with the Auburn Tigers. While it was a nerve-wracking situation considering Dooley’s age and stature in Athens, minds were put at ease when Dooley was released from the hospital on Monday.

“Good news to pass along. Former Georgia football coach Vince Dooley was released from the hospital today after a bout with COVID, according to his daughter Deanna,” tweeted Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald on Monday. “She says he’s ‘doing so much better.'”

Now, Dooley has released a statement, where he reassured Georgia faithful he’s doing alright and is ready to get back to campus for some games.

“I’m grateful for all the cards, text messages, emails, and calls as well as the prayers and concerns,” stated Dooley via UGA Athletics, per Weiszer. “But I’m ready to go Saturday with my regular book signing session at the UGA Bookstore and certainly the homecoming game.”

It’s fantastic news that Vince Dooley is feeling well enough following his stint with COVID to get back to campus, and he’ll be welcomed back with open arms when he arrives. While he gave Georgia faithful a collective scare last weekend, it’s tremendous that everything looks to be alright.

With a long, illustrious career that inspired millions, Dooley was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1994.

In addition to being the head coach of the Bulldogs until 1984, Dooley was also the Georgia Athletic Director from 1979 to 2004. Indisputably, he’s one of the most important people to ever come through Athens.

Moreover, Weiszer also noted that Dooley has had his mark on the 2022 season, as the Redcoat band played “Happy Birthday” to the legendary Bulldogs coach to mark his 90th birthday in Atlanta before Georgia’s opening showdown with Oregon this season. Of course, Georgia won that game 49-3, using some of that birthday magic to do so.

Additionally, Dooley was also at the Bulldogs victory over Samford in September, showing he still has his mark on the program.
