WATCH: College GameDay guest picker revealed
Former WWE legend and former Georgia football player Bill Goldberg has been selected as the guest picker on ESPN College GameDay, the show announced on Thursday afternoon. He’ll join the set ahead of the College Football Playoffs.
The 7:30 p.m. ET game will be the Capital One Orange Bowl matchup of Georgia vs. Michigan. The 3:30 p.m. ET game will be the Alabama vs. Cincinnati matchup–the Goodyear Cotton Bowl.
While he did play professional football, Goldberg is much more famous for his professional wrestling career. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018. He was a popular character in numerous video games, including WCW Nitro, WCW/NWO Revenge, and numerous other wrestling games.
Goldberg’s most popular finishing move was the spear finishing move, and he’s credited with inventing the move as well as popularizing it across America.
His first title came in 1998, when he defeated Hollywood “Hulk” Hogan for the WCW title belt in Atlanta, Georgia.
He made his long awaited return to WWE in 2016, after 12 years away from pro wrestling. In the past five years since making his return, he’s captured the WWE Universal Championship twice.
The former pro wrestler turned 55 years old recently and he revealed on the Pat McAfee Show a few days ago that he needs shoulder surgery. His last wrestling match was at the WWE Crown Jewel 2021 PPV in Saudi Arabia, where he defeated Bobby Lashley.

Goldberg as a college football player
During his college football days with the Georgia Bulldogs, Goldberg played defensive tackle. He was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the 11th round of the 1990 NFL Draft. Due to his lack of success in the NFL, he described playing in the NFL as a “mixed emotional experience”. While he reached the NFL, he didn’t reach the level of success he desired.
ESPN’s College GameDay is one of the most popular shows in college football and features television personalities such as Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, and David Pollack.
It’ll be a big weekend for the popular college football show and college football fans across the country as they get to watch two of the most anticipated matchups of the season.
