WATCH: Famous Georgia alums send message following national championship win
The Georgia Bulldog fan base is still riding high off one of the biggest moments in school history. And why not? They finally dethroned Alabama 33-18 and on top of that, the Bulldogs just won their first national championship in over 40 years.
Check out the video below as several former Georgia football players wished congratulations to the team on the incredible accomplishment.
Former Bulldog great running back Nick Chubb chimed in to open the video. Then other former Georgia players chimed in: such as former Bulldog wide receiver Mecole Hardman, offensive lineman David Andrews, tight end Ben Watson, quarterback Aaron Murray, Thomas Davis, and kicker Rodrigo Blankenship.
There are few moments in life that can match the euphoria of winning a national championship. Especially in big-time college football, because it’s one of the most difficult accomplishments in all of sports.
You don’t have to repeat that sentence to Georgia fans, as they’ve waited over 40 long years for this one. That’s not even mentioning the heartbreak the fan base experienced in 2018 when Alabama ripped their hearts out in Atlanta, Georgia.
The man who brought Georgia their last one in 1980, their former head coach and Bulldog icon Vince Dooley, was in attendance for this year’s national championship breakthrough. It was only fitting.
Ironically enough, current Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said that he’d received a sign from God that the Bulldogs were going to win it on Sunday night, when he saw Dooley locked out of his hotel room.

“I got off the elevator the other night and I thought it was a sign when the elevator opened on the 15th floor,” Smart told reporters after the game. “Vince Dooley was sitting on a bench locked out of his room. I thought, ‘God put him there for me to see him the night before this game.’ He was waiting on his key to come up to his room. I just knew that meant something.”
Smart may have been onto something, since Alabama lost two of their top wide receivers, John Metchie III and Jameson Williams to ACL injuries, Metchie III in the SEC Championship Game and Williams, in the national championship game. Those injuries certainly impacted Alabama in a big way.
The Crimson Tide still made Georgia earn every bit of the national championship and it’ll go down as one of the hardest-hitting and well played games in the sports’ history. The 15-point victory for Georgia was the second largest defeat in the Nick Saban era at Alabama, which itself, is mind-blowing.
But make no mistake about it, this Georgia team and their defense were the most consistently dominant force in college football during the 2021 -2022 season. Their devastatingly dominant defense will share its rightful place among the all-time greats in the history of the sport.
While the confetti has already been cleaned off the field at Lucas Oil Field days ago, the celebration for former Georgia players, alums, and the rest of the Bulldog fanbase won’t stop anytime soon. Nor should it. Soak it in, Georgia fans.
