WATCH: Georgia Bulldogs block Kentucky field goal to end quarter
The Georgia Bulldogs ended the third quarter with a huge special teams play, as defensive end Devonte Wyatt blocked a Kentucky field goal attempt. Up 24-7 as the third quarter drew to a close, Georgia’s field goal block helped their offense extend their lead with a touchdown on the following drive.
Georgia blocks field goal
On their second longest drive of the game through three quarters, Kentucky drove 40 yards down the field before being forced to attempt their first field goal of the game. Wyatt and a teammate got an incredible first push on a Kentucky lineman, and after the deep penetration put his hands up. Kentucky’s kick went off the Georgia lineman’s hand, keeping their lead at 17.
No. 1 Georgia’s defense continued to be a threat to any offense as they limited No. 11 Kentucky to just seven points through the first three quarters. The Georgia defense has not yielded more than 13 points in a game all season, and has two shutouts to their name already in seven games.
Following the blocked kick, Georgia drove 82 yards down the field for another touchdown of their own. The drive was capped off by quarterback Stetson Bennett’s third touchdown of the day as he continues to start in relief of the injured JT Daniels. Bennett and the Georgia offense managed 416 yards of total offense by the middle of the fourth quarter, putting up plenty of points to cushion their lead as the defense dominated.

JT Daniels still hurt
“Georgia quarterback JT Daniels (lat strain) has done a little more in practice this week than last, coach Kirby Smart said,” as detailed by Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald. “He threw up to 40 passes Monday and as far as 30 yards, but didn’t do as much today. Director of sports medicine Ron Courson has him on a ‘pitch count.’”
The Bulldogs have played great despite not having their starting quarterback for so long, but their biggest potential hurdles of the regular season were coming over the next two weeks. No. 11 Kentucky was their opponent this week and were dispatched with ease, with No. 20 Florida right around the corner after them.
Georgia’s defense has been incredible so far this season, allowing Smart room to leave his quarterback on the sideline until he’s completely healthy. With their eyes on the College Football Playoffs after becoming the number one team in the nation this week, Daniels’ future status appears to be more important to the Bulldogs than having him on the field now.
