Georgia returns much of their offensive attack from a year ago, but they will be replacing their top two pass catchers.

So, on Wednesday morning, Jake Rowe of DawgsHQ joined Andy Staples on the On3 YouTube channel to discuss the Bulldogs’ talent in the wide receiver room, where Staples asked point blank who would be the No. 1 guy to step up and fill the void this coming season.

“With Ladd McConkey and Brock Bowers headed to the NFL, who is Carson Beck targeting the most?” asked Staples. Rowe gave the following answer: “Dom Lovett is the guy.”

The Missouri transfer went for 613 receiving yards last season in his first year as a Bulldog, which came off the heels of a 846-yard season in his last year with the Tigers in ’22. Rowe believes he could get back to that territory in 2024.

Dominic Lovett has been a steady thread throughout this entire spring for Georgia. He was Georgia’s second-leading receiver last year and if you go back and look, I thought this was interesting, if you go back and look at the games where Brock Bowers came out early or missed games, Lovett was fantastic.”

Rowe explained that Lovett has already shown he can be the guy to step up in place of Bowers and McConkey, since he was able to serve as that dependable pass catcher when those two missed time in 2023.

“I think it was something around 5-6 catches, on average, about 60 yards per game, and you push that over the course of a 13, 14, 15-game season, you’re looking at an 800, 900-yard receiver,” said Rowe of the numbers without Bowers/McConkey on the field.

“That was in year one with a new quarterback he had never played with, he wasn’t the first option, Brock Bowers was the first guy, and he wasn’t even the second option when Ladd McConkey got healthy,” Rowe added.

But now that Lovett is a year older within the Georgia system, and has strong production in the past, there’s no reason to think he won’t become a top option for second-year starting QB Carson Beck.

“In my opinion, you’re talking about a big strong-armed quarterback who likes to throw the ball over the middle of the field, you got a really talented veteran slot receiver with all the ability in the world,” said Rowe, declaring: “I would say Dominic Lovett is probably going to be Georgia’s go-to guy.”

Expect a huge year for No. 6 out wide this coming fall.
