Adonai Mitchell injury boosting other WRs, TEs, Darnell Washington says
Georgia had some turnover at wide receiver after their national championship, with a new supporting cast being there for quarterback Stetson Bennett. Adonai Mitchell was expected to play a huge role but thus far, has been out for most of the season with an injury. Head coach Kirby Smart is not sure Mitchell will return in time for the Auburn matchup either.
For tight end Darnell Washington, he views the Mitchell injury as a positive for everyone else on the roster. He thinks it’s helped the tight ends excel in the pass game and the younger wide receivers get important reps. He mentioned Dillon Bell by name, who has six receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown.

“I feel like with the younger guys, like Dillon Bell, it’s just boosted their mentality to come out and just be the next guy,” Washington said. “You know? Step it up.”
While Georgia’s young guys might not seem that way with classification, they’re all earning important playing time for the first time in their careers. Washington has helped bridge the gap, as has Brock Bowers. Even so, Mitchell is missed in the offense.
When he is able to return, Georgia will be able to fully bounce back into their normal self on the offensive end.

Kirby Smart provides injury update on Adonai Mitchell
Georgia narrowly escaped with a win over Missouri last weekend and now turns its attention to a rivalry weekend against Auburn. As the Bulldogs look to rebound with a decisive win, they look to get several key players healthy and continue on a path toward postseason success.
One of the key pieces head coach Kirby Smart provided an update on in his Tuesday press conference was wide receiver AD Mitchell, who burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2021 on the way to a national championship.
“You know, I don’t know,” Smart said on his gut feeling about AD Mitchell’s potential return. “I feel much better. He hit some good speeds yesterday in conditioning and did some cuts. I didn’t see – I didn’t get to see him practice as much today when I was with the defense and he went in some of the scout periods. I got to watch has tape, but it looks very promising from what I saw yesterday in terms of him running.
“I don’t know how much the role will be. We’ll see. But we’ve got a lot of guys banged up, so it’s gonna be done by committee a lot of places.”
