Georgia Tech fans throw goalposts into campus pond after upsetting Miami
Georgia Tech ended Miami’s perfect season on Saturday and the students storming the field after the upset in Atlanta weren’t leaving the goalposts be. And like so many fans in college football of late, they weren’t going to stay in the stadium, either.
So after tearing down the uprights and parading them out of the stadium, the fans looked for somewhere to take them. Their choice of destination?
A campus duck pond.
The victory over Miami pushed the Yellow Jackets to its sixth win of the season, qualifying them for a bowl game while the future of Miami’s season is now in the hands of the College Football Playoff selection committee.
In the end, it was the Georgia Tech defense making the biggest play of the day to seal the game. Junior Romello Height came around the edge and forced the strip sack. The Yellow Jackets recovered deep in Miami territory and would run out the clock.
Miami trailed Georgia Tech 14-10 at halftime as the Yellow Jackets halted any Miami offensive attack in the second quarter thanks to a run-heavy 10-minute drive that kept the first half at a low score. Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King played through the game with an injured shoulder and was unable to throw the ball how he normally would. Instead, he would hurt the Hurricanes on the ground all afternoon.

By the end of the game, King totaled a team-high 93 rushing yards while the team totaled 271 en route to victory.
Instead, it was true freshman Aaron Philo who was given the task to throw the ball for Georgia Tech, and he delivered. The two quarterbacks combined for 88 yards and two touchdown passes on the day.
On the other side of the ball, Ward appeared to do his part on the stat sheet. He completed 25 of 39 passes for 348 yards and threw for three touchdowns. Still, it wouldn’t be enough as they were forced to come back from down two scores in the fourth quarter.
