The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are attempting to finish filling out their football coaching staff. Coming off of a 3-9 season, Georgia Tech has made some changes to the staff under head coach Geoff Collins. Now, the Yellow Jackets have taken an incredibly unique measure in an attempt to fill a position on the coaching staff.

Georgia Tech has posted a position on the football coaching staff on Indeed, one of the top job recruiting websites. While seeing jobs on that website is expected, it is unforeseen to see college football coaching positions posted there. Regardless, Georgia Tech has posted an opening, titled assistant coach – football.

There are multiple job responsibilities listed, and as expected, they follow those that would be expected out of an assistant coach. The job posting does say that “previous coaching experience in intercollegiate athletics” is strongly preferred.

Georgia Tech finished the 2021 season with a 3-9 record, ending the year with a blowout loss against Georgia, the eventual national champion. The Yellow Jackets ranked towards the bottom of the ACC in most offensive categories.

Georgia Tech AD Todd Stansbury hopes Collins can build a staff to ‘get over the hump’

Despite a poor record last season, Georgia Tech was competitive in quite a few losses. The Yellow Jackets lost four games by a single possession, including a season opening 22-21 loss to Northern Illinois and a 14-8 loss to Clemson in Week 3.

Georgia Tech athletic director Todd Stansbury retained Geoff Collins as the team’s head coach, but admitted that Collins needs to build a staff to help the team get over the hump. Stansbury believes in Collins moving forward, but improvements need to be made as soon as possible.

“I have my man,” Stansbury said of the future of Collins at Georgia Tech. “But now it’s time where, how do we get over the hump?”

Georgia Tech has made multiple changes to the staff in the offseason. Offensive coordinator Dave Patenaude, co-defensive coordinator Nathan Burton, and cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator Jeff Popovich were all let go following the season. Now, as the Yellow Jackets take a very unique approach to filling out the staff, Stansbury hopes to see progress next season.

“Between the offense and defense and special teams, we’ve got to shrink that differential,” Stansbury said. “And if we can do that by 10 points, you’re looking at a totally different season. Where Coach is dialing in on what do, we need to do to close that differential, and it’s my job as the athletic director to give him and our players the resources they need to be successful to do that.

“I know he’s going to review kind of what it is that we need to do, where we are falling short, where there are holes in what we’re doing and we’re going to work together to get those things fixed.”
