Haynes King injury update: Brent Key lists status for starting quarterback
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key shared an update on the injury status of quarterback Haynes King. This comes after King was unable to finish last week’s game against North Carolina.
At the start of the fourth quarter, King led the Yellow Jackets on a long touchdown drive that ended in a Jamal Haynes touchdown. However, he would not return to the field following that drive. It was unclear what the immediate issue was that King was dealing with.
“Day-to-day with it right now,” Brent Key said on 680TheFan. “We’ll see how the week progresses.”
Immediately following the game, Key was vague about the status of King moving forward. He shared that he didn’t have an update on his starting quarterback but shared that there’d be more information soon. However, he did note that his spirits were high and King was “enjoying the victory.”
It would be Zach Pyron who came in to finish the game against North Carolina off for Georgia Tech. He only threw one pass, a seven-yard completion, but that was enough to help the Yellow Jackets earn a win over the Tar Heels.

The game-winning score came when Haynes King was out of the game. With less than 30 seconds left and the game tied, it looked like Brent Key and Georgia Tech were happy to run out the clock and play for overtime. That was when Jamal Haynes busted open a 68-yard touchdown run to take the lead with just seconds left in the game.
It’s been an excellent season for the Yellow Jackets, who are now 5-2 on the season. Much of that success has come down to the play of Haynes King. He has completed 71.2 percent of his passes this season for 1,568 yards and eight touchdowns to only one interception. King also runs well, with 353 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
If he can’t play, Haynes King will likely be replaced by Zach Pyron again. Now in his third season with the program, he has starting experience going back to his true freshman season in 2022. He initially came to Georgia Tech as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022, according to the On3 Industry Rating.
Next up for Georgia Tech is going to be a very challenging game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. With one of the best defenses in the country on the Notre Dame sideline, Georgia Tech will look to have its full complement of offensive weapons when the Irish visit.
