Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King is a “true game-time decision,” against No. 4 Miami on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

He will undergo pregame workouts before a decision is made, according to the report. King did not practice with the team on Thursday and Friday with the hope of potentially playing against the Hurricanes. He’s missed the last two games nursing an upper body injury.

In the first game King was out with injury, Georgia Tech turned toward sophomore Zach Pyron to start against Notre Dame on Oct. 19. He finished 20 of 36 passing for 269 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in a 31-13 loss.

Pyron struggled in his next outing last week against Virginia Tech, leading to the Yellow Jackets playing true freshman Aaron Philo. The two comined for 21 of 48 passing for 260 yards while throwing an interception each in the 21-6 loss.

Thamel expects Philo to earn the starting nod on Saturday against the Hurricanes if King is unable to suit up.

Georgia Tech hopes to be able to get its QB1 back, however, as the Yellow Jackets began the season 5-2 under King’s guidance. Before going down with injury, he completed 71.2 percent of his passes this season for 1,568 yards and eight touchdowns to only one interception. King also runs well, with 353 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

They’ve lost both matchups since King has been sidelined, and are in danger of dropping to .500 if they’re unable to upset Miami on Saturday. Heading into its final two games of the season against NC State and Georgia — Georgia Tech has to win at least one of those games to become bowl eligibly, making the outcome of Week 11’s game all the more important.

Kickoff between the Yellow Jackets and the Hurricanes is set for Noon ET and will air live on ESPN. The ‘Canes are 10-point betting favorites heading into game day. The over/under is set at 63.5 points.
