Georgia Tech is already without starting quarterback Haynes King for its matchup against Notre Dame. It has now been revealed that the Yellow Jackets will be without star linebacker Kyle Efford, too.

Efford is out with an undisclosed injury, according to ESPN insider Pete Thamel.

Thamel posted the news on Twitter Saturday afternoon.

“Sources: Georgia Tech will be without star linebacker Kyle Efford, the team’s leading tackler and best defensive player, against No. 12 Notre Dame today,” Thamel posted.

Kyle Efford has 52 tackles to lead Georgia Tech, which is 17 more than anyone else on the Yellow Jackets team. The redshirt sophomore also has 3.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

Efford played in all 13 games last season as a redshirt freshman, including starting the final seven games of the year. He led Georgia Tech with 81 tackles last season.

Haynes King also out for Georgia Tech against Notre Dame

Georgia Tech starting quarterback Haynes King will miss Saturday’s game against Notre Dame, ESPN insider Pete Thamel posted on Friday.

Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key shared earlier in the week that Haynes King was questionable for the Notre Dame game after leaving last week’s game against North Carolina with an injury. He was replaced by Pyron. He only threw one pass, a seven-yard completion, but that was enough to help the Yellow Jackets earn a win over the Tar Heels.

Immediately following the game, Key was vague about the status of King moving forward. He shared that he didn’t have an update on his starting quarterback and added that there’d be more information soon. However, he did note that King’s spirits were high and King was “enjoying the victory.”

It’s been an excellent season for the Yellow Jackets, who are now 5-2 on the year. Much of that success has come down to the play of Haynes King. He has completed 71.2 percent of his passes this season for 1,568 yards and eight touchdowns to only one interception. King also runs well, with 353 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

Redshirt sophomore QB Zach Pyron will start in King’s place.
