Longtime Georgia Tech defensive line pledge Alton Tarber decommits
Deerfield Beach, Fla., three-star defensive lineman Alton Tarber has been a longtime Georgia Tech commitment. But just three days before the start of the early signing period he has backed away from that pledge.
In a lengthy note posted Sunday on social media, Alton Tarber thanked all of the Georgia Tech coaches, players, friends, family, and coaches Deerfield Beach for supporting him. But he said in the note that he needed to decommit.
It should be noted that the decommitment comes after the Oklahoma Sooners offered Tarber a scholarship. Tarber was scheduled to make it to Oklahoma for an official visit this weekend. But it’s not been confirmed whether or not he made it to campus for the visit.
Another interesting thing about Tarber’s decommitment note was that it was timestamped at 11:05 a.m. on Friday. He didn’t post his decommitment until 5:18 p.m. on Sunday.
Before he committed originally to Georgia Tech, Alton Tarber was offered by Miami, Texas A&M, LSU, North Carolina, Michigan, and a long list of about 25 other programs.
