Report: Georgia Tech assistant Ricky Brumfield no longer on Yellow Jackets coaching staff
Ricky Brumfield is reportedly no longer a member of the coaching staff at Georgia Tech.
Per Adam Bishop of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Brumfield, associate head coach for special teams and cornerbacks coach, isn’t with the Yellow Jackets anymore.
Georgia Tech has since released a statement on the news.
“Georgia Tech associate head coach for special teams Ricky Brumfield is no longer with the program,” it read. “Senior advisor to the head coach Tim Salem will assume the role of coordinating the Yellow Jackets’ special teams.”
This comes days after Brumfield did not travel with the team for their road loss at Virginia Tech on Saturday. Following the 21-6 loss to the Hokies in Blacksburg, Brent Key gave little comment on the matter when asked.
“Yeah, he didn’t make the trip. That’s all I have. That’s all the information I have,” said Key. “I said he didn’t make the trip and that’s all the information I have.”

This was Brumfield’s second season on staff under Key. After being the special teams coordinator last season, he took the expanded role as associate head coach for special teams as well as becoming the cornerbacks coach for this one.
Prior to being at GT, Brumfield had worked at other programs like FIU, Virginia, UTSA, Western Kentucky, Nicholls, Fairmont State, and Union College. He also has experience in the pros as part of the NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship in jobs with the Tennessee Titans, Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons, and Pittsburgh Steelers. All of those are on his resumé during the 2000s. Essentially all of them also involved special teams work while also working with other positions like receivers, safeties, corners, tight ends, and linebackers.
As was shared by the Yellow Jackets, Salem will now take over the special teams unit after joining the program this season as a senior football advisor.
