Drew Timme explains relationship with Gonzaga coach Mark Few
Drew Timme has evolved into one of college basketball’s most recognizable players over his time playing for Mark Few at Gonzaga.
Timme was a five-star recruit from the 2019 cycle, who was also the No. 41 recruit in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, when he joined the Bulldogs. The star Gonzaga leader had his choice of wherever he wanted to play for the most part, and the Richardson, Texas native took his talents to Few’s program.
It’s a decision we’re willing to bet Timme is more than happy with. Few has continually brought the best out of Timme, and the Gonzaga star has rewarded his coach with immense success. While the Bulldogs entered the NCAA Tournament with a little less fanfare than they’ve had in recent seasons, the No. 3 seed is one victory away from making it back to the Final Four.
Ahead of their Elite Eight showdown with the Connecticut Huskies, Timme elaborated on his relationship with Few, something that will make Gonzaga faithful smile as they read.
“Smart guy. He’s been so good to me,” explained Timme. “We’ve had our ups and downs. We’ve butted heads before. I think that’s the best part of it is that we’ve been able to go at each other, push each other’s buttons and love each other too.

“I think that’s why we’ve been so good together is we’re not afraid to get under each other’s skin and push each other to do better. It’s like the perfect brotherly love, I guess. I don’t know. But he’s the best coach I could ever ask for. I love that man.”
As you can see, Timme kept it real when speaking of his beloved coach. Few isn’t one to give his stars nothing but love. While Timme may pop ratings and trend on Twitter, he’s just another player on the Bulldogs working towards a title for Gonzaga.
The mindset has gone a long way for Timme, who has become someone fans love and rivals love to hate. Regardless, you have to respect his game, especially when he puts the team on his back in the NCAA Tournament.
Drew Timme, Mark Few and the Bulldogs will be hoping to send the Huskies home, and take another trip to the Final Four. It all comes down to Saturday night, and nobody should bet against Gonzaga and their potential to get to Houston.
