Four-Star WR Malik Elzy commits to Illinois
Four-star wide receiver Malik Elzy of Chicago (IL) Simeon High announced his commitment to Illinois Saturday afternoon.
The 6-foot-2, 185 pounder chose Illinois over Cincinnati and others.
Elzy on his commitment
“What ultimately stood out was the coaching staff. My position coach McDonald, since the first day he offered me, he has been recruiting me hard. Since then checking in on me daily and also my family. Illinois doesn’t want me, they need me. Ultimately I want to go somewhere I am needed so I can help. As you see coach is trying to make Illinois great again by recruiting more in-state kids and why not stay home and make it Illinois like the Miamis, and Alabamas and keep the talent in state.”

What it means to stay home to Malik Elzy
“It means a lot. I can be the pipe line for the other talented athletes coming up after me to show them that staying home is not a bad idea. To be a part of something that’s going to keep getting better and better. With that being said, it’s always been a blessing to represent my city.”
Elzy ranks as the No. 321 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 44 wide receiver and the No. 5 player in the state of Illinois.
