Illinois offers rising 4-star quarterback JJ Kohl
Illinois has entered the mix for Ankeny (Iowa) High four-star quarterback JJ Kohl, offering the rising prospect a scholarship Wednesday.
He is the No. 371 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Des Moines (Iowa) Southeast Polk four-star offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor and Bettendorf (Iowa) Pleasant Valley four-star EGDE Andrew Depaepe are the two players from Iowa ranked ahead of Kohl from the state of Iowa.
Kohl is ranked higher in the 2023 On300 ranking as the No. 213 prospect and No. 9 in the class. On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power explained Kohl’s inclusion in the rankings for the first as a result of his intangibles and continued improvement.

“JJ Kohl (No. 213) is a new entry into the On300,” Power said. “The Ankeny (Iowa) High product is a big, strong-armed quarterback at 6-foot-6, 230-pounds. Kohl is a good athlete with a multi-sport background and has shown signs of a high physical upside. He continued to elevate his play as the season went on and led his team on a deep playoff run. Iowa, Iowa State and Wisconsin are among the top programs in Kohl’s RPM.”
The Fighting Illini have zero commits in the 2023 cycle.
In the 2022 class, they have one quarterback commit: Sicklerville (N.J.) Timber Creek three-star prospect Donovan Leary.
