Illinois running back Kaden Feagin has been ruled out for Week 8 against Michigan, coach Bret Bielema revealed Thursday. It will mark the second straight game that Feagin has missed as he recovers from a left leg injury.

Feagin is the leading rusher for the Fighting Illini with 306 yards rushing and three touchdowns through the first five games. Josh McCray stepped up in his absence to lead the team in carries this past week in an overtime win against Purdue and should be expected to start against the Wolverines.

McCray rushed for 78 yards and a pair of touchdowns last week and will aim to continue the success against Michigan. He is a former three-star recruit who is in his fourth season with the Fighting Illini, with his best year coming as a true freshman when he totaled 549 yards and two TDs.

Feagin, a former four-star, is in his second year at Illinois after finishing second on the team in rushing with 438 yards rushing as a true freshman. His next chance to return to action will come in Week 9 against No. 2 Oregon.

Saturday’s game between Michigan and Illinois represents a chance for the Fighting Illini to earn their sixth win and reach bowl eligibility after going 5-7 in 2023. The Wolverines ranks as the top rushing defense in the Big 10 as they are surrendering only 76.3 ground yards per game.

That in mind, McCray and the rushing attack will certainly have their work cut out for them if they hope to take down the defending national champs. Illinois enters as a 3.5-point underdog despite the game being at home.

Kickoff for the contest is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday in Champaign.
