What Curt Cignetti and the Indiana Hoosiers accomplished in 2024 won’t be soon forgotten, even if their season didn’t end with jubilation like they would’ve wanted.

After taking over a program many thought would never even sniff the College Football Playoff, Cignetti’s team was an afterthought in the mind of most college football fans to begin the season, and all they did was win. Their ride came to an end in South Bend on Friday evening though, as they fell by ten to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Even though the game wasn’t as competitive as the Hoosiers would’ve liked it to be, Cignetti doesn’t believe there’s anything for Indiana to hang their heads about. During his postgame press conference, the head coach elaborated on how he hopes the 2024 iteration of Indiana is remembered moving forward.

“You are what your record says you are,” Cigetti stated. “11-2, tied for second in the Big Ten. Made the College Football Playoff. Packed the stadium. Made a lot of people proud. Had a historic season. Set the foundation for, you know, hopefully, what’s to come.”

That’s a tremendous way to look at it for Cignetti. While the Hoosiers weren’t able to give Notre Dame a fright during their first round clash, the head coach is looking at 2024 as the beginning more than anything, believing this could be the launching point for years of success in Bloomington. It’s up to him to ensure they don’t squander their newfound momentum.

Even though they faltered a bit against the top teams on their schedule, like the aforementioned Fighting Irish and the Ohio State Buckeyes, Indiana did secure some impressive wins in 2024. They went on the road and defeated UCLA by 29. Nebraska fell by 49 points against the Hoosiers. Even Michigan couldn’t best Cignetti’s team, losing by five in Bloomington.

Fans and media members alike might look back on 2024 differently if Indiana returns to mediocrity under Curt Cignetti in 2025. However, there’s a real chance he’s brought them to a new level, and the head coach will be hoping it sticks when the Hoosiers return to their field next season.
