Joey Galloway believes Indiana would have to get 'beat to death' to miss College Football Playoff

Indiana is ranked No. 5 in the College Football Playoff heading into Saturday’s showdown with No. 2 Ohio State. Despite that, there are some who feel that the Hoosiers should miss the CFP if they lose to the Buckeyes.
Indiana currently has a strength of schedule that ranks No. 106, which is the second-lowest of any team ranked in the College Football Playoff top 25.
College football analyst Joey Galloway was recently asked on the ESPN College GameDay podcast how the committee should look at Indiana if the Hoosiers lose to Ohio State this weekend.
“They would have to get beat to death, like really, really stomped out,” Galloway said of what it would take for IU to miss the CFP. “And I don’t think Ohio State’s that kind of team. Ohio State is not the kind of team that stomps people out. They beat you, but they’re not going to stomp you out.”
Ohio State does have a few blowout wins on its resume, but none of those came against particularly good teams. The Buckeyes beat Penn State by 7 and only beat Nebraska by 4.

“They didn’t blow out Penn State, which you would think that they could have, maybe should have,” Galloway said. “And so because they’re not the kind of team that does that to you, I think Indiana’s going to hang with them. And I think hang with them enough to still be fine and stay in the playoff, even if they lose.”
In addition to Galloway, ESPN host Rece Davis also offered his thoughts on Indiana and what it will take for the Hoosiers to get into the playoff. Davis agrees that as long as Indiana is competitive, IU should get in.
“If they lose the game badly then they are at best going to be on the bubble,” Davis said. “If they just lose the game, because they don’t really have a big win to hang their hat on but they’ve executed at a very high level, I would probably have them in the realm ranked where they would be right on the borderline of a home game. I would not have them as a lock for a home game.”
