Maryland transfer running back Roman Hemby commits to Indiana

Maryland Terrapins transfer running back Roman Hemby is taking his talents to Indiana, committing to join the Hoosiers via the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3 has learned.

He spent four seasons at Maryland. During that time, he’s played in 42 games and has 2,347 yards on the ground with 22 touchdowns. That’s come on 4.9 yards per attempt. Hemby has also been a major threat in the passing game, catching 112 passes for 921 passing yards and five touchdowns. That was 8.2 yards per reception.

In 2022, Hemby’s redshirt freshman season, he had his most productive year on the ground, rushing for 989 yards and 10 touchdowns. Then, his most productive season through the air came in 2023 when he had 349 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Continuing, Hemby played his high school football at John Carroll School in Bel Air, Maryland. There, he was a three-star recruit in the Class of 2021, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 92nd-ranked athlete and the 1,586th-ranked player overall in that recruiting cycle. 

Roman Hemby played in only four games during the 2021 season, allowing him to take a redshirt and retain one season of eligibility. 

The Transfer Portal opened on Monday, December 9th for the first of two windows for players to enter during the offseason. This comes alongside bowl preparation and signing high school recruits for teams. The other window to enter the portal will come following Spring practice. On top of that, if a head coach leaves their job, the portal would open for that individual team.
