Mike Woodson slams Fran McCaffery after intense scene at the end of Iowa-Indiana
Things can get intense in the Big Ten and, last night, tempers flared. During a matchup in Iowa City between Indiana and Iowa, Hawkeye head coach Fran McCaffery and the Hoosier sideline exchanged words at midcourt late in the game.
The incident was at the center of a massive comeback for the Hawkeyes as they went on to win the game 91-89. However, Indiana’s Mike Woodson said McCaffery shouldn’t have been around to see the end of the game. He believes the referees should have ejected McCaffery for being that close to the Hoosier’s bench to begin with.
“That is bull****. The guy should’ve been thrown out of the goddamn game,” said Mike Woodson postgame.
The incident was rooted in a foul call on Filip Rebraca, which ended the fifth-year senior’s night. As McCaffery argued the call as the officials reached the monitor, he eventually reached Indiana’s sideline. That’s how he and IU assistant Yasier Rosemond eventually ended up exchanging words before the referees separated them.

Again, tempers were high already in this one because of Iowa’s massive comeback. The Hawkeyes were down as much as 21 points in the first half, 13 in the second half, and six with under four minutes to go. Still, they battled. With the help of 51 second-half points, they were able to outscore Indiana down the stretch to take this win.
Woodson may have a point about McCaffery’s role as the instigator with him coming to their side. In the end, though, it was just another part of the meltdown that didn’t go the Hoosier’s way. With that said, mark your calendars for February 28th as, at the end of Big Ten play, these two will square off again in Assembly Hall with both sides likely wanting another crack at the other.
