Iowa athletic’s biggest star was on the football field on Saturday, but she wasn’t in uniform.

Caitlin Clark made her way out to Kinnick Stadium for the Hawkeyes’ Week 1 showdown with the Utah State Aggies. Thus far, she’s given the Iowa offense a much-needed boost, as they’re scoring like she does on the court, leading by a score of 14-3 at the moment.

Check out the video below, where she’s in good spirits, cheering on the school she represents so well.

Moreover, Clark has brought a newfound excitement to not just Iowa women’s basketball, but women’s basketball as a whole. The 2023 season should be another awesome one for the Hawkeyes.

They’ll have big goals and feel the pressure, but Caitlin Clark is simply cheering on her football team on Saturday, before the grind truly begins. Time will tell if the Hawkeyes can hold on to a Week 1 victory, or if Utah State can make the comeback.

That’s 15,000 tickets sold to fill up Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Demand for the tickets had been through the roof since the 2022-23 posteason ended, with Clark taking the Hawkeyes to the brink of a national championship. Iowa fell short in the title game against LSU, and some of what happened in the aftermath led to increased interest in the sport.

LSU star Angel Reese used a signature “you can’t see me” hand wave gesture from Clark and turned it back on the Iowa star in the waning minutes of the title game, also pointing to her ring finger repeatedly, with the Tigers comfortably ahead.

“I don’t think Angel should be criticized at all,” Caitlin Clark said, regarding the situation. “No matter which way it goes, she should never be criticized for what she did. I’m just one that competes and she competed. I think everybody knew there was going to be a little trash talking the entire tournament. It’s not just me and Angel. So I don’t think she should be criticized, like I said. LSU deserves it. They played so well. Like I said, I’m a big fan of hers.”

Even that didn’t overshadow Caitlin Clark’s tremendous season. She took home virtually every major award, winning the Naismith, Wooden and Associated Press Player of the Year honors. She was named the Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year. She was a unanimous first-team All-American by the AP and the USBWA.
