Caitlin Clark: Hannah Stuelke will break Iowa single-game scoring record
On Feb. 8, Hannah Stuelke joined the Iowa record books with 47 points against Penn State. It was the most points in Carver-Hawkeye Arena history as she helped the Hawkeyes defeat the Nittany Lions 111-93.
That record stood for one week.
As Caitlin Clark pursued the NCAA’s all-time scoring record – and broke it just two minutes into the game – she also went off for 49 points to lead Iowa to a 106-89 victory over Michigan Thursday night. That not only broke the Hawkeyes’ single-game record, but it also meant Stuelke’s Carver-Hawkeye mark fell. She made sure to let Clark know about it, too.
Then, Clark made a bold prediction for what’s next in Stuelke’s career.
“She said she passed the torch to me, so I was like, ‘Oh, Hannah, that’s so kind of you,'” Clark said after the game. “But Hannah will break my record. She’d better break my record, playing here for another couple years.”
While Clark gets many of the headlines amid her historic career, Stuelke is also an important part of the Iowa offense. She ranks second on the team with 14.4 points per game while averaging a team-high 7.0 rebounds, as well. Against Michigan on Thursday, she had 13 points and five rebounds before fouling out.
But in the locker room, Stuelke is also making an impact on her teammates, according to Clark. As for how long she wants her single-game record to stand, Clark doesn’t want Stuelke to wait long to break it.

“Hannah’s just hilarious,” Clark said. “She asked why I had to do that. I should’ve made a couple more layups, honestly. I think that just speaks to our culture and the team Coach Bluder has built here. You just want to see your teammates succeed. I was so happy for her the other night.
“And I’m perfectly fine with Hannah going out and scoring 50 next game. Hopefully, she does that.”
Caitlin Clark made her feelings clear about Stuelke’s potential at Iowa following her big game against Penn State. She went 17-for-20 from the field and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the charge that night, and Clark didn’t sound surprised at all about the performance.
“I think that’s what everybody’s been waiting for,” Clark told the Big Ten Network broadcast after the game. “She’s had glimpses of being really, really great like that, but we all know how good she is. I’m just proud of her.”
