Caitlin Clark on Iowa rematch with LSU: 'We couldn't be more excited'
Caitlin Clark and Iowa will give the world what they wanted: a rematch with LSU in the 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The Elite Eight will be the stage this season, rather than the national championship. Last year, LSU took it to Iowa, winning 102-85 in the finals.
Iowa, the No. 1 seed in the Albany Region, gets No. 3 LSU Monday night and Clark couldn’t be more excited for one of the most anticipated games of the season.
“Yeah, they’re really good at every single position,” Clark told ESPN’s Holly Rowe. “We know all about that. Obviously we played them last year but you know, we’re gonna have to find a way to rebound. They rebound the ball really well, but gonna enjoy this one and then turn the page and look at our scout tonight and get ready for that.”
Clark and Angel Reese are arguably the two biggest stars in women’s basketball, and it’s not even close. Another matchup between the two promises to be exciting.

“Absolutely so good for women’s basketball,” Clark said. “And to be honest, I’ve watched a lot of LSU’s games and what they’re doing for women’s basketball, the way their fans support (it) is tremendous. And it’s been fun to watch and they’ve had a great season so I know it’s gonna be a great game and both teams are gonna be ready to go.
“It’s just gonna be great for our game and you know, we couldn’t be more excited.”
Clark did more than just score in the 89-68 win over Colorado Saturday. Her assist game was on point (she finished with 15 in addition to her 29 points).
“I think that’s why we’re so successful,” Clark said. “We really moved the ball whether they’re in man, whether they’re in zone, whether it was transition, I thought we executed in every single area. Also our defense was really good, only gave up 68 points. I thought they scored a lot there on the fourth, but proud of the group.”
Iowa and LSU are set to square off Monday night in Albany at 7:00 p.m. ET. It’s not the national championship game, but a trip to the Final Four is on the line.
