Caitlin Clark shares her reaction to setting the all-time scoring record
Caitlin Clark is now No. 1 after her career-best performance put her over the top on the all-time scoring list in women’s collegiate basketball. Everything about the moment and the night that came with the accomplishment felt like a movie and, as the star of the show, Clark couldn’t have agreed more.
Clark reacted to her historic accomplishment to start her postgame press conference following the 17-point win for Iowa over Michigan on Thursday. From what she experienced out on the floor last night, it was something that not even the best screenwriters could top.
“Yeah, I mean, I don’t know if you can really script it any better,” said Clark.
Everything about the evening was special for Clark with every eye in the building on her plus plenty more tuning in again. The setting specifically made the memory for her considering all the details and then appreciation from their fanbase.
“Just to do it in this fashion? I’m very grateful,” said Clark. “I’m very thankful to be surrounded by so many people that have kind of been my foundation in everything that I’ve done since I was a young little girl.”
“I started crying when watching that video. Just because, like, I’m just filled with so much gratitude and love,” Clark said. “The way that these fans support women’s basketball is so special.”
Clark scored a career-best of 49 points on 16-31 (51.9%) shooting and 9-18 (50%) from three. The 49 points were also good for a single-game record in Hawkeye history.
One of those threes included the record-breaker just under two and half minutes into the game. That brought her career total to 3,569 points to pass Kelsey Plum’s previous total. She is now under 100 points away from the all-time collegiate record for both men’s and women’s with several games left to go in her senior season.
Her offensive performance also featured 13 assists in the 106-89 victory against the Wolverines. It was enough to help secure the win which, in the end, made the night that much better.
“I thought we played really well tonight,” said Clark. “I thought our defense could have been a little better.”
The night inside the Carver-Hawkeye Arena matched the moment as it was a night that Clark, along with those in the gym and watching along, won’t forget. The shot that accomplished it was too as Clark broke the record in the only way that she knew how.

“I mean you all knew that I was going to shoot a logo three for the record,” laugher Clark. “C’mon now!”
Clark reacts to ‘unreal’ scene on record-breaking night
Caitlin Clark entered Thursday night just eight points away from becoming the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer. It then took her all of two minutes and 12 seconds to do so.
She didn’t stop there, though. Clark poured in 49 points to lead Iowa to a 106-89 victory over Michigan.
The fans at Carver-Hawkeye Arena planned on seeing some histor and ticket prices soared ahead of tip-off. They watched as Clark broke not one but two records in the span of one game and it made for quite a scene that Clark made sure to enjoy.
“It’s pretty unreal,” Clark told Peacock’s Caroline Pineda after the game. “This crowd’s unreal. I’m just really grateful, honestly, to be able to be here and make so many of my dreams come true with so many amazing people that have supported me – whether it’s my coaches, my teammates, my family. I’m just filled with a lot of gratitude.”
“It’s so special,” Clark said. “These fans deserve it. They’ve supported me since I stepped on campus. We had big dreams and big aspiration and we achieved a lot. But we’re not done. We’re still looking for a little more and I’m proud of our group. I thought we came out and battled well. Michigan played well. They made some tough shots but I thought we responded well and closed out the win.”
