Gus Johnson is one of the most beloved broadcasters of all-time. His fans across the sports landscape stretch far and wide. And on Saturday night in the Iowa vs. Maryland women’s basketball game, Johnson made an unexpected mistake that will undoubtedly earn him even more love from his fans.

In the first quarter, when Maryland guard Brinae Alexander had her shot blocked by Iowa guard Caitlin Clark, Johnson accidentally cussed and said Brinae Alexander had her “s*** blocked” and quickly corrected himself.

Quite frankly, as much as broadcasters like Gus Johnson talk on air in a given year, it’s surprising there aren’t more mistakes. But he certainly makes the profession look effortless, when it’s certainly far from as easy as he’s made it look over the years.

Iowa sharpshooter Caitlin Clark delivered yet another masterful performance on Saturday, showing why she is one of the biggest draws in women’s sports. She stuffed the stat sheet with a double-double, pouring in 38 points, dishing out 12 assists, and grabbing six rebounds.

Iowa had three players score in double figures, but they were once again carried by their superstar, as they have been the past few years. Iowa shot 12 of 33 from three-point range, but made 9 of 10 of their free throws (90%). Maryland certainly didn’t make things easy on the Hawkeyes on Saturday, as Iowa didn’t pull away until late in the fourth quarter.

The Terrapins had four players score in double figures (Alexander, McDaniel, Sellers, and Brown-Turner.)

Iowa currently sits at 21-2 and 10-1 overall. They’re currently the third ranked team in America and they’ll be one of the heavy favorites to get back to the Final Four this year, no doubt about it. When watching Clark play, it’s easy to see why. There’s very few players in the women’s game that are as dominant as she is.

Iowa recently lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes (100-92 OT) on Sunday, January 21st. But now the Hawkeyes have won three straight games and they’re getting hot again as March rolls around the corner. They’ll get a rematch with Ohio State on Sunday, March 3rd. That figures to be another highly-anticipated showdown. Also, on February 22nd, they’ll face off against the Indiana Hoosiers–who are currently ranked 10th in the country.

Not only will Caitlin Clark continue her march towards shattering even more records, but she’ll look to punch the Hawkeyes tickets to back-to-back Final Fours. That’s never been done in school history, so if the sharpshooter can find a way to do that, it will only further cement her in Iowa women’s basketball immortality.
