Harvey Ludington announces commitment to Iowa wrestling

Harvey Ludington, the No. 1 190 pound wrestling prospect in the country per MatScouts, announced his commitment to Iowa.
Ludington was previously committed to Arizona State before decommitting this fall. Now, he’ll head to Iowa City to wrestle for the Hawkeyes.
A two-time New Jersey state champion from Brick Memorial, Ludington is one of the top overall prospects in the country.
Ludington also took visits to North Carolina, NC State and Oklahoma after decided against going to Arizona State.
Ludington, a senior, won his second state championship last March in Atlantic City. He defeated Vincenzo LaValle of Hanover Park (N.J.), 11-3, in the 190-pound final. The Brick Memorial star completed his junior season 35-0.
Going into his senior campaign, Ludington is 111-3 in his high school career. He’s a two-time champion and three-time finalist, losing 7-1 to Simon Ruiz in 2023. Ruiz is now at Cornell.
“It really got to me and it took me a month or so to get past it,” Ludington said, via NJ Advance Media. “I don’t think I came out of my room for a week. But that loss helped me get to an attacking style.

“I told myself that was never, ever going to happen to me again. I never wanted to feel that way again.”
As far as personal history, Ludington can become the first three-time state champion in Brick Memorial history with a title this coming March.
A projected 184/197 pounder for Iowa, Ludington could be in a loaded room. The Hawkeyes currently have redshirt freshman Gabe Arnold at 184 pounds, true freshman Angelo Ferrari (who was one of the top pound for pound recruits in 2024) at the same weight and a few freshmen sprinkled at 197.
The current 197 starter is Stephen Buchanan, a graduate transfer from Oklahoma and one who could be in the running for this year’s NCAA title.
Is there room for Ludington to start right away for Iowa? That could certainly be the case next season. Of course, we all still have an entire high school and college season to go first!
