2025 ATH Mason Woods commits to Iowa Hawkeyes
Iowa City West Senior three-star athlete Mason Woods has committed to Iowa, he announced Wednesday afternoon. He is the son of former Hawkeyes linebacker and current special teams coordinator LeVar Woods.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pounder chose the local Big Ten program while also holding Power Four offers from Missouri, Kansas and Kansas State.
Woods is the No. 828 overall prospect and No. 47 ATH in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 9 player in Iowa.

Woods has been on campus numerous times throughout his recruitment and is scheduled to be back for his official visit this weekend. He becomes pledge No. 8 for Kirk Ferentz and Co. this cycle.

The Hawkeyes’ 2025 class now ranks No. 41 in the nation and No. 12 in the Big Ten, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Woods is the third in-state recruit to join the class, flanking Clear Lake four-star tight end Thomas Meyer and Pleasant Valley three-star interior offensive lineman Joey VanWetzinga.

Meyer is the top-ranked prospect in the class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He checks in inside the top 250 overall, is the No. 13 TE in the cycle and also the No. 2 player in Iowa.
The 2025 On300 currently tabs Oswego (Ill.) four-star linebacker Carson Cooney as the top recruit in the fold for Ferentz and Co. The 6-foot-3.5, 215-pounder continues to rise for On3’s scouting and rankings team and is now the No. 104 overall recruit and No. 8 LB in the cycle.
Other commits in the class include Sycamore (Ill.) three-star LB Burke Gautcher, Fort Wayne (Ind.) Carroll three-star quarterback Jimmy Sullivan, River Falls (Wisc.) three-star TE Eli Johnson and Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy three-star safety Drew MacPherson.
