Iowa guard Molly Davis carried off court after scary knee injury in 2Q vs. Ohio State
The Iowa Hawkeyes lost a key player in their game against Ohio State during the second quarter. Molly Davis, a fifth year player, went down with an apparent knee injury while going for a loose ball.
Davis immediately grabbed her knee after landing on it wrong in a scary moment. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to walk off under her own power. As she was carried off to the locker room to get her injury looked at, the crowd chanted her name, “Molly.”
While nobody doubts that Caitlin Clark is the face of the Iowa program, Molly Davis is one of several veteran players who have rounded out the roster and made the Hawkeyes incredibly formidable this season. In total, Davis has played in all 30 of Iowa’s games this season, starting in nearly every one of those games.
This season, Molly Davis is averaging 24.8 minutes per game. In that time, she’s averaging 6.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. Davis has also made 53.9 percent of her shots from the field and 40.7 percent of her shots from three-point range. On the defensive side of the ball, Davis has 20 steals and a pair of blocks this season.
As a fifth-year player, this was Molly Davis’ final home game with the Iowa Hawkeyes. A key Big Ten game, going down in the first half was certainly not what she had hoped for. Now, she’s looking to her teammates to try and pick her up and get the big win.

Shortly after deciding to go into the WNBA, Caitlin Clark explained it was to answer questions about her future and make sure the focus was on the other seniors, including Molly Davis, in this final game of the season.
“I think that’s super important because those other seniors have given so much to this program,” Caitlin Clark said. “Been some of my best friends and people that they need to be celebrated the same way that I will be. I think that’s really special. I didn’t want that day to be something like, ‘Is Caitlin gonna stay? Is she gonna go?’ I want it to just be a celebration of what we’ve been able to give to this program, what we’ve been able to do.”
Prior to playing for Iowa, Molly Davis played three seasons at Central Michigan. There, she played in and started 81 games, averaging 17.8 points per game. Prior to the 2022-23 season, she transferred to Iowa and competed at a higher level of the sport. She was able to play this season, her fifth in college basketball, thanks to the pandemic impacted season.
Molly Davis returned to the court in the fourth quarter of the game in a wheelchair, with a heavy number of bandages on her injured leg. She was still in uniform.
