Iowa starting guard Molly Davis has yet to play in the NCAA Tournament this season after suffering a knee injury in the Hawkeyes’ regular season finale against Ohio State.

It appears as if Davis is unlikely to play on Saturday when Iowa faces Colorado in the Sweet 16. Hawkeyes coach Lisa Bluder told reporters on Friday that Davis is doubtful for the matchup.

“Yeah, she’s doubtful for tomorrow. Molly is doubtful for tomorrow,” Lisa Bluder said.

Fubo’s spring offer just kicked off – For a limited time, new subscribers can save $20 on their first month of Fubo’s Pro, Elite, and Premier plans.

Molly Davis has appeared in 30 games this season, making 27 starts. She is averaging 6.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.

Davis is an excellent shooter as she knocks down 54 percent of her field goals, better than 40 percent of her 3-pointers and nearly 86 percent of her free throws. Bluder was hopeful that the senior would be back for the Sweet 16, but she has yet to be cleared.

“I don’t know,” Bluder said when asked how close Molly Davis is to returning. “I really thought she’d be back by now. I really did. I have no idea how long it’s going to take for her to completely heal, but we’re not going to put her out there when it’s unsafe for her to be out there.”

Molly Davis started her career at Western Michigan, spending three seasons there. As a freshman in 2019-20, Davis was named second-team All-MAC and was also named to the MAC All-Freshman team. She led the Broncos in scoring that season at 14.3 points per game.

In 2020-21, Davis averaged 20.8 points per game and was named first-team All-MAC. The following season — her last at Western Michigan — Molly Davis averaged 18.6 points per game.

She then entered the transfer portal, before ending up at Iowa. Davis averaged 3.8 points per game in 2022-23, while playing 16.8 minutes per game.

The Michigan native helped the Hawkeyes reach the Final Four and eventually the national championship game last season.

The hope for Davis and the Hawkeyes is that Iowa can continue to win in the postseason and eventually she will be able to return to the court.

Iowa faces Colorado on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The game will be televised by ABC. With a win, Iowa would advance to face the winner of LSU and UCLA, with a spot in the Final Four on the line.

With Davis out, others will need to continue to step up if Iowa is going to make it back to the Final Four.
