Former Kansas State guard Brendan Hausen has committed to Iowa, via the NCAA Transfer Portal, On3’s Joe Tipton has confirmed. Hausen only spent one season at Kansas State.

In his lone campaign with the program, Hausen started in all 33 of his appearances. He averaged 10.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 27.6 minutes per game. He shot 39.0% from the field and 38.8% from beyond the arc.

Hausen had his best performance of the season in Kansas State’s 88-71 loss to St. John’s on Dec. 7. In the loss, the 6-foot-4 shooting guard tallied a season-high 27 points while shooting 6-10 from downtown.

Hausen transferred to Kansas State last offseason after spending two years at Villanova, where he amassed 66 total appearances but zero starts. He averaged 6.2 points and 1.6 rebounds in 17.6 minutes per game during his sophomore season.

Brendan Hausen played high school basketball at Amarillo (TX), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 72 overall player and No. 11 shooting guard in the 2022 recruiting cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

He finished his high school career as Amarillo’s all-time leading scorer. For his efforts, he was named the 2021-22 Boys Athlete of the Year in the Texas Panhandle.

Hausen is the sixth player Iowa has added via the NCAA Transfer Portal this offseason. Iowa is in rebuild mode after firing longtime head coach Fran McCaffery and hiring former Drake head coach Ben McCollum to lead the program.

McCollum spent just one season at Drake, where he led the team to a 31-4 overall record, a 17-3 mark in conference play, the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title and the conference tournament championship. With the latter win, Drake made its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.

Alas, McCollum wasn’t satisfied with receiving an invitation to the Big Dance, he wanted to cut a rug. McCollum led his Bulldogs to a win over 6-seed Missouri in the first round of the tournament before ultimately falling in the Round of 32. It was Drake’s first win in the NCAA Tournament since 1971.

Now, McCollum will look to bring similar success to Iowa. With players like Brendan Hausen by his side, he has an excellent opportunity.
