Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz confirmed to media members at the Big Ten Media Days that receiver Kaleb Brown will be suspended for one game following his offseason arrest for operating a vehicle while under the influence.

Among others, the Des Moines Register’s Chad Leistikow reported the news.

Brown is a transfer from Ohio State, opting to join Iowa prior to the 2023 season. He started four games for the Hawkeyes last fall and recorded 22 catches for 215 yards and a touchdown.

He was arrested in late June and charged with OWI and possession of a fake identification. Local Iowa station 1630 KJCC reported on the arrest.

Kaleb Brown was observed near his home just before 2:30 a.m. on the night of the arrest with “heavy front-end damage” to his 2023 Dodge Durango, including a front wheel that was completely turned sideways.

As Brown tried to get his vehicle unstuck, police observed troubling signs.

Brown allegedly backed the vehicle onto a lawn and began spinning his tires. When police made contact with him, he had bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, unsteady balance and the strong odor of alcohol on his breath.

He then refused to go through field sobriety tests, at which point he was found with the fake ID. Brown was 20 at the time of his arrest.

In his first and only season back at Ohio State, Brown appeared in just four games and was only able to record one catch during his true freshman year, going for five yards. Ironically, it came against Iowa.

Prior to his time at OSU, Kaleb Brown played high school football at Chicago (IL) St. Rita, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 107 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
