Kirk Ferentz is going to run it back for Iowa this week. Spencer Petras will be back under center.

Ferentz announced Petras will once again start at quarterback for the Hawkeyes when they take on Nevada in Week 3. Iowa has scored one offensive touchdown through two games this season, via a Leshon Williams rush, and the offense has come under fire as a result.

But Ferentz is keeping things status quo, continuing to roll with Petras over backup Alex Padilla. He also cited “challenges” on offense, which makes it hard to give both players an “honest evaluation.”

“[Petras will] start right now,” Ferentz said. “That’s our plan unless something happens in practice. We obviously have spent a lot of time looking at it, considering it, talking about it. It’s not the same as last year, but there are some similarities, I think. I think it’s really tough to give an honest evaluation right now.

“I’ve talked to Alex about the same thing. I think no matter who’s in there right now, we’ve got some challenges. We’ve got to work through those and try to improve in those and then, we’ll figure out a way to assess it. I think I speak for everybody in our program, we all have faith in both players.”

Bob Stoops, Fran McCaffery accidentally troll Brian Ferentz, Iowa offense in Cameo videos

The Iowa offense has come under fire for its slow start to the season and someone took to Cameo to get two people — Iowa men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery and former Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops — to troll the Hawkeyes.

Both coaches filmed Cameo videos sent to “Brian,” as in Brian Ferentz — Iowa’s offensive coordinator and Kirk Ferentz’s son. They went viral Monday night as Brian Ferentz comes under fire for the slow start.

“Hey Brian, Fran McCaffery here,” McCaffery said. “I wanted to reach out let you know that all of us know in the Hawkeye family are thinking about you. Your family loves you, your dad loves you, the Hawkeyes love you. If you think about making a move back to New England, or wherever you go, wherever you are, the Hawkeye family will always be with you.”

Stoops’ video offered a similar sentiment.

“Hello there, Brian,” Stoops said. “This is Bob Stoops here, saying hi. Listen, I know you have had a couple of tough two, three years there but the good news is, your family still supports you, buddy. Especially your Dad. He wants you to know that. Even though everyone else seems to be against you, sometimes, the best time is to break free from the family business. Go do what you need to do. All the best to you. A big Boomer Sooner and good luck.”
