The Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team was able to exact revenge on Ohio State on Sunday for their 100-92 road loss to the Buckeyes in late January. Unfortunately, similar to that matchup, the Hawkeyes left that game with an injury concern to one of their top players.

In Sunday’s 93-83 victory over Ohio State, guard Molly Davis went down with what appeared to be a significant leg injury. On Monday, Iowa women’s basketball head coach Lisa Bluder revealed that the injury is at least not of the season-ending variety.

“While we feel for Molly that she got injured during Senior Day, we are so thankful that the injury she sustained is not season ending,” said Bluder. “Our program has appreciated everyone’s support and prayers as we look forward to her return at some point during the postseason,” said Bluder, according to Iowa Sports Personality Keith Murphy.

There is no current time table on Davis’ return to action. But the fact that she could possibly return for Iowa’s postseason run is huge, as the Hawkeyes are looking to cap this season as national champs; a title that narrowly eluded them in the 2022-23 campaign.

Davis immediately grabbed her knee after landing on it wrong in a scary moment. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to walk off under her own power. As she was carried off to the locker room to get her injury looked at, the crowd chanted her name, “Molly.”

While nobody doubts that Caitlin Clark is the face of the Iowa program, Molly Davis is one of several veteran players who have rounded out the roster and made the Hawkeyes incredibly formidable this season. In total, Davis has played in all 30 of Iowa’s games this season, starting in nearly every one of those games.

This season, Molly Davis is averaging 24.8 minutes per game. In that time, she’s averaging 6.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. Davis has also made 53.9 percent of her shots from the field and 40.7 percent of her shots from three-point range. On the defensive side of the ball, Davis has 20 steals and a pair of blocks this season.

As a fifth-year player, this was Molly Davis’ final home game with the Iowa Hawkeyes. A key Big Ten game, going down in the first half was certainly not what she had hoped for. Now, she’s looking to her teammates to try and pick her up and get the big win.

When Molly Davis left the game against Ohio State, she had three rebounds and an assist.
