Iowa State offers 2 of Kansas City's top underclassmen
Iowa State has made a living out of recruiting in the Kansas City metro area under Matt Campbell. So, it’s no surprise to see the Cyclones extend offers to two of KC’s top underclass prospects this weekend.
The Cyclones first offered Andre Davis, a 6-foot-4, 205-pound receiver from Overland Park (Kan.) Blue Valley. Davis is quickly becoming one of the hottest underclass recruits in the Sunflower State.
He first landed a scholarship offer from the K-State Wildcats on Oct. 14. That offer was followed up quickly by an offer from Kansas on Oct. 16. Then came the Iowa State offer on Saturday.
Davis is fired up to have those three offers. But don’t be surprised if more start to pour in. That’s especially true after Davis had a big junior season that saw him rack up more than 740 yards receiving, three touchdowns and average 16.3 yards a reception.
Davis’ season ended in a playoff upset this past Friday night when Blue Valley West beat the Tigers. Yet, that should diminish the excellent season he had.
Davis’ father is Willie Davis, who played in the NFL for eight seasons. Davis played his sophomore season at Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point.
Iowa State also offers rising sophomore
Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North is loaded with talent in the 2022 and 2023 classes. But recruiters are already falling in love with sophomore EDGE rusher Williams Nwaneri.

Iowa State was the third school to offer Nwaneri. The Cyclone offer on Saturday adds to his earlier offers from KU and Iowa. He has already visited Iowa for a game and was in Ames this weekend, too.
On3’s Tim Verghese got a chance to see Nwaneri play on Friday night in the second round of the Missouri high school playoffs. Verghese came away impressed with the rising 2024 target.
“He passes the eye test standing at 6-foot-5 and has an incredible wingspan,” Verghese wrote. “He was disruptive all night and came up with a number of sacks and tackles for loss. Holds offers from Iowa and Kansas, but this recruitment will likely blow up soon. Keep an eye on him.”
KC happy recruiting territory for Cyclones
Iowa State has recruited well in the Kansas City area, especially in the 2022 class. The Cyclones have commitments from On3 Consensus three-stars Jason Essex of Winnetonka, EDGE Ikenna Ezeogu of Blue Springs and linebacker Carson Willich of Blue Springs.
In 2021, the Cyclones signed receiver Jaylin Noel and DL Howard Brown out of Kansas City. In 2020, DL Johnny Wilson signed out of the metro area.
