Deion Sanders was just going in for a usual postgame handshake and half hug with his counterpart on Saturday, Eddie Robinson Jr., but was rebuffed and forcefully so. Robinson stuck a hand out and Sanders dapped him up before trying to pull him in and wrap his free arm around him.

Robinson stuck his arm out and put his palm in the chest of Sanders, before turning and storming away. Sanders stood there, arms out and palms up, seemingly perplexed.

Jackson State had toppled Alabama State, 26-12, winning on the road during ASU’s homecoming.

It’s possible a pregame comment from Sanders about Jackson State coming to town for homecoming being a “money game” — i.e., a game for ASU to make a lot of money because of the presence of their opponent — ruffled some feathers with Robinson.

Whatever the cause, it was a very icy moment between two coaches after a game.

Sanders is a potential option to fill a Power 5 coaching vacancy, including Georgia Tech

Georgia Tech parted ways with head coach Geoff Collins Sunday, firing him following their 27-10 loss Saturday to UCF. Collins was in the midst of his fourth season as the Yellow Jackets’ head coach this year, starting the season off 1-3 after three straight three wins seasons. As Georgia Tech looks to find his replacement, college football insider Dennis Dodd released his top candidates to replace Collins, headlines by Jackson State head coach and Hall of Fame player Deion Sanders.

Sanders is very familiar with the market and landscape of Atlanta and could be a perfect fit, with time spent there during his professional career with the Atlanta Falcons and Braves. As a coach, Sanders has proven he can turn a program around, as Jackson State was a losing, 4-8 team in 2019 before his arrival.

In his debut coaching season, Sanders led the Tigers to 4-3 record in a shortened COVID season, followed by an 11-2 finish in 2021. The 11 wins were a single-season school record, as Sanders won the Eddie Robinson Award given to the top FCS head coach of the year. Sanders currently has Jackson State off to a 4-0 start, outscoring their opponents 190-37 through four games. The gig at Georgia Tech would be his first time coaching at the FBS level, but he would definitely bring some much needed attention and panache to a program that hasn’t been in the national spotlight often in the past few years.

Georgia offensive coordinator Todd Monken also made the list, as he enters his third season as the Bulldog’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Monken has done a tremendous job as Georgia’s offensive play-caller, helping lead them to a National Championship win in 2021, while also developing quarterback Stenson Bennett into one of the country’s most efficient quarterbacks. Monken has plenty of college and NFL experience, but his last and only head coaching job has been at Southern Miss, where he led them to 9-5 record in his final season following a three and a two win season prior.

Rounding out the list was Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki, who has the Jayhawks off to a historic start this season, and a successful trio of group of five head coaches which include Appalachian State‘s Shawn Clark, Coastal Carolina‘s Jamey Chadwell, and Western Kentucky‘s Tyson Helton.
