Detroit Martin Luther King three-star safety Jameel Croft committed to Kansas on Wednesday afternoon. He chose the Jayhawks over Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee among other programs.

Croft is the No. 792 overall prospect and No. 66 safety in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 15 player in Michigan.

Kansas’ 2023 recruiting class now contains 10 commitments. Croft is the group’s second-highest-rated pledge behind Chula Vista (Calif.) Mater Dei Catholic three-star athlete Surahz Buncom, the No. 791 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus.

Following his commitment, the Jayhawks’ 2023 class is No. 79 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 10 in the Big 12. Croft is Kansas’ first commit since Douglasville (Ga.) South Paulding three-star quarterback Kasen Weisman chose the Jayhawks on Aug. 11.

Kansas also landed a pledge from Saint Petersburg (Fla.) Gibbs three-star interior offensive lineman Marcus Calvin in August. Croft has an On3 NIL Valuation of $6K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
