The Kansas Jayhawks had a hard-fought win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders earlier this week. The Jayhawks prevailed despite being ice cold from three-point range, connecting on only 5-of-23 shots (21.7%) from deep. Texas Tech didn’t fare any better, shooting only 18.8% from beyond-the-arc.

Following the victory, Kansas head coach Bill Self broke down his team’s performance.

“I told the players, I’ll be honest. That was a high-pressure game. A lot of self-inflicted pressure. We played so loose early. Too loose. And shot all the balls from the perimeter. And we missed them. I told them the basket got about probably the size of what you shoot at the state fair. The ball barely fit inside the goal,” Self said.

“The first half we were down nine. Could have been less because they shot it poorly, but it could have been 17 real easy, too. And in the second half they played much, much better. Offensively, we didn’t guard them well for the vast majority of the second half. And we still couldn’t make perimeter shots. We took ’em. We kept taking them. But finally we drove and got to the free throw line. So, it was a great night. Great win. You’ve gotta win games like that. But certainly, I think guys felt different pressure tonight. It was senior night. And also, playing for a championship,” Self said.

Kansas had three players pour in double figures in the win: Jalen Wilson, Kevin McCullar, Jr., and Dajuan Harris, Jr. The Jayhawks also won the game despite being outrebounded by Texas Tech 41-28 on the glass. With the win, Bill Self won his 17th Big 12 regular season championship in 20 years. Some people believe he should be a candidate for National Coach of the Year, like Gary Parrish of CBS Sports.
