The Kansas Jayhawks kept their Big 12 regular season title hopes alive with a huge 86-67 home victory over the Texas Longhorns on Saturday. After nearly doubling up the Longhorns and the first half, 45-25, the Jayhawks were able to cruise to the 19-point victory despite missing one of their key players in guard Kevin McCullar.

Up next for head coach Bill Self and the Kansas men’s basketball team is another home contest, this time against Big 12 newcomer BYU. This will be another big-time challenge for the Jayhawks on Tuesday night as the Cougars sit just two games behind them with a 19-8 overall record but are 7-7 in the conference.

The status of McCullar, who is Kansas’ leading scorer on the season, averaging 19 points per contest, is still up in the air. But on Monday, Self set the record straight, revealing whether or not his veteran guard would be available to play against BYU or in the Jayhawks matchup later on in the week against the Baylor Bears.

“I don’t know about this week; he’s not going to play tomorrow. Yeah, he definitely will not play tomorrow,” said Self.

Kansas will hit the road on Saturday, heading to Waco, TX, to take on Baylor in a huge clash of Big 12 and national championship title contenders. The Bears are ranked No. 15 in the nation and sit in fourth place in the Big 12 with a 19-8 overall record and are 8-6 in conference play.

The Jayhawks might be able to defend their home court similarly on Tuesday against BYU without McCullar as they did against Texas. However, Kansas will likely need the assistance of their veteran star guard and points leader on the season on Saturday if they want to make it out of Waco, TX, with the victory.

Kansas and Baylor will square off against one another at Foster Vavilon on March 2. The matchup between The Jayhawks and Bears will be a primetime affair scheduled to tip off at noon CT.
