It appeared as if the injury bug bit the Kansas Jayhawks in their thrilling 76-74 victory over West Virginia on Saturday. The Jayhawks lost guard Dajuan Harris late in the game with a lower leg injury. And forward, KJ Adams Jr. appeared to be also dealing with an issue. So heading into Tuesday night’s game against the Texas Tech Red Raiders, will either one be able to take the court for Kansas? Well, on Monday, head coach Bill Self answered that question providing an injury update for both Harris and Adams.
“From an injury standpoint, I think Juan hopefully will practice today. Kevin practiced today. So we didn’t do anything yesterday. They just got treatment. Today will be our first day back since the game Saturday, except for watching tape. But I anticipate everybody being full go,” said Self.
Kansas has two more games remaining in the regular season, and both are essential if the Jayhawks want at least a share of the Big 12 regular season title. Given the impact both Harris and Adams have on a nightly basis, they will both be essential cogs in Self’s system down the stretch. Good thing it does not appear that Kansas will be without either player going forward.
Self on Harris and Adams injuries after WVU game
The Kansas Jayhawks survived a close one at home against West Virginia. The Jayhawks narrowly escaped an upset, beating the Mountaineers 76- 74. During the game, Kansas had a few injury scares, notably to starting forward KJ Adams Jr. and starting guard Dajuan Harris. After the game, head coach Bill Self revealed that Adams was dealing with cramps. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Harris.

“No, no, Dajuan wasn’t (dealing with cramps); they fell on his foot. Juan’s tough, and for him to say he can’t go back in that’s obviously a big deal,” said Self. “He said he could probably play if there’s overtime. Three minutes is gonna make a huge difference? I mean, so if you could play in overtime, why couldn’t you play now? But that tells me he was hurt. So we’ll probably give him a couple of days off and hope he’s ready to go on Tuesday.”
Despite the injury and missing the closing minutes of the game, Harris still lead the Jayhawks on the night in scoring and in the assist column. The six-foot-one junior guard finished the game with an efficient 17 points on 7-9 shooting from the field and 2-3 from beyond the arc. And he also tacked on six of Kansas’ 17 assists. One of which was a nifty no-look pass to Adams early in the second half for a powerful two-handed flush.
