Bill Self: Hunter Dickinson ‘played like an All-American’ vs. Colorado

Kansas C Hunter Dickinson had one of the better games of his collegiate career in a win at Colorado on Monday.
Bill Self applauded Dickinson in one of his best outings as a Jayhawk following the 71-64 win. He said he was the best player on the floor last night, especially early with how he helped them get going to begin the game.
“Yeah, I thought he was the best player in the game, obviously. He was terrific,” said Self. “Got us off to a great start – he and KJ.”
Dickinson finished with a double-double of 32 points (72.2% FG) and 13 rebounds along with one of each of an assist, steal, and block. The scoring was a point shy of tying and two shy of breaking his career-best with it being his most points at KU.
That outing also included 15 points (75% FG), seven rebounds, the assist, and the steal in the first half for Dickinson.
Self noted Dickinson’s effort on the boards as well with the 13, which tied for the third-most for him in a game this season, as he accounted for over 40% of the rebounds for Kansas. They were even more important considering the Buffaloes, despite that total from Dickinson, still beat the Jayhawks by 15 in that stat.
“You know, they killed us on the glass,” added Self. “If it weren’t for Hunt, we would’ve, we would’ve been annihilated on the glass.”

With his numbers as a graduate student, Dickinson should be well on his way to more honors as All-Big 12 and an All-American. Self agrees and certainly does after their center’s latest performance in Boulder.
“He was great,” said Self. “He played like an All-American tonight.”
Self reveals how he prepared for late tip-off vs. Colorado
The Big 12 is now a conference with sixteen teams from eastern time to mountain time. That has made for some interesting tests on body clocks tests with start times for their games.
That includes the one that Kansas had to manage on Monday for the team’s late-night road test at Colorado. The Jayhawks won 71-64 and, after the game, Bill Self revealed that his preparations for the game didn’t particularly change besides the time he did everything shifting slightly.
“It wasn’t that hard for me,” Self said. “I went for my walk right around 11 and then took my nap before pregame at 5. So, I handled it fine. It wasn’t that big a deal.”
Tip-off for the game against Colorado was at 10:00 p.m. central time. That was the latest start time for a game that Kansas has seen all season. The previous latest start time for them was at 9:00 p.m. central time in a road loss last weekend against Utah.
