Allen Fieldhouse wasn’t happy with a foul call with just seconds left in their team’s loss this weekend to No. 10 Texas Tech. With how it played out from there, though, Bill Self doesn’t think it’s anything worth complaining about too much now.

Self discussed the foul, which Kansas hoped was a call for out of bounds, with twenty seconds left in the 78-73 loss to the Red Raiders on Saturday. He said they didn’t feel there was a foul there but that it came about after a discussion between two of the referees.

“I do have a perspective. I didn’t think he was fouled,” said Self. “You know, one official saw it one way and another official saw it the other. I don’t think he was fouled.”

However, considering Texas Tech went out of bounds the very next play, Self said it all eventually evened out and the Jayhawks didn’t make the most of it.

“We got the ball back anyway so, so – and, to be honest, the second time, he may have been fouled. So, so, uh, it probably balanced out,” Self said. “He wasn’t fouled. I mean, that’s a bad call. But, we did get the ball back so you can’t b**** about the call.”

“We got the ball back and then obviously they did a good job of taking away the initial three in the corner. I wish we would’ve just driven it but, still, we tried to, we tried to play it making a hard shot,” said Self. “This time, I didn’t (call timeout). I thought we’d just go get a quick two and, and it didn’t work out.”

On an inbounds with twenty seconds left, Rylan Griffen was called for a foul on Elijah Hawkins right in front of the Jayhawks’ bench that they and the crowd didn’t agree with. Still, with them still not in the bonus, Texas Tech had to inbounds again and, that time, fell out of bounds. Kansas would get the ball down three but, with a missed three-pointer from Zeke Mayo, would go on to lose five as the seconds went.

As for a fan throwing an object onto the court because of the foul on Griffen, Self did not have an opinion on that.

“Well, I don’t have a perspective on throwing anything because I didn’t see what was done,” said Self.

Kansas, as well as their home court advantage, weren’t pleased with that whistle. Even so, they still got their chance and, in the end, didn’t do anything with it in getting their tenth loss this season with it being their eighth total, and their third in Lawrence, in the Big 12.
