A banged-up Kansas team earned a tight win over Baylor on Saturday. After the game, head coach Bill Self gave an update on a pair of injured Jayhawks, Kevin McCullar and Dajuan Harris Jr.

In particular, there are concerns about both players getting back with a quick turnaround and another game on Monday. However, Self wasn’t overly optimistic about getting the two players back by then.

“I don’t know anything about Dajuan but I can’t imagine Kevin being a lot better on Monday if he can’t hardly move on Saturday,” Bill Self said. “But, we’ll see.”

Kevin McCullar has dealt with injury issues throughout the season. The Baylor game was the second in a row that he’s missed and Kansas is hoping to get him back as quickly as possible. After all, while averaging 19.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game this season, McCullar has been vital to the team’s success.

For his part, Dajuan Harris Jr. has an ankle injury that he suffered late in the game against Baylor. A vital defensive player for Kansas, he is averaging 8.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game. Losing him for an extended period would force Bill Self to find a new approach and test Kansas’ depth in the second half of the season.

“Same thing I just said. Dajuan, I don’t know, he’ll get treatment. I don’t know if he’ll be able to play or not tomorrow,” Self said. “He got it pretty good, they said. They said he got it pretty good, but he still made the biggest shot of the game when he came back in.”

On Monday, Kansas will travel to Lubbock for an important conference game against Texas Tech. Whether or not Kansas is at full strength for the game is yet to be determined.

Bill Self explains the challenge of winning on the road

Kansas is coming off a tight win at home over a good Baylor team. However, it came off a tough road loss for the Jayhawks, which was their third straight road loss and fifth loss away from home this season overall.

“It’s always been hard to win on the road,” Bill Self said. “I think some teams are more equipped to win on the road than other teams. But I think it’s always been hard to win on the road. There’s more competitive balance this year than what we’ve had in years past, I think.”
