After an awful two-game stretch as part of some poor play in conference, Kansas got themselves right with their best offensive outing in a month during a 32-point blowout.

Bill Self thought the 96-64 win for the Jayhawks over Oklahoma State on Saturday was exactly what they needed. Eight players scored six or more in their fourth-largest margin of victory on the season.

“Oh, yeah, we needed some confidence boost and we got it from a lot of people today. So we should feel better about ourselves, you know,” Self said.

Kansas returned to Lawrence this weekend after losing a pair to Utah by seven and to BYU by 34. It was the most concerning stretch of their year to this point as the Jayhawks fell to 8-7 in the Big 12 and to just 10-9 overall since December 4th.

Offensive issues have been a lot of their problem over that span as they’d averaged 72.5 ppg. in the Big 12 and 66.8 in their nine losses since December. That’d been even more so for them in February with an average of 67.8 in their six games prior this month.

However, Kansas put up some points against the ‘Pokes in leading by almost 40. The 96 points was their second-most of the season and, again, they got their as a team with several contributing to them shooting 52.1% from the field and 46.7% from three. They also, in leading by 29 at the break, put up 52 in the first half (57.1% FG, 47.1% 3PT).

“I thought we played great the first half,” Self said. “I thought that’s as well as we’ve looked on both ends in the first half.”

There was a lot to be negative about with Kansas coming back from their road trip the prior two games. Still, while there’s more for them to figure out, the Jayhawks will all be feeling much better, coming off that much better performance, on Monday.

“We just have 48 hours – and, really, probably closer to 55 hours since the game is so late. But, yeah, we need to be more of a confident group going to Boulder and hopefully today helped with that,” Self said.
