Coaches getting ejected has become a growing trend in the Big 12 recently. Three times this month, a Big 12 coach has been ejected for the first time at their school. That includes Kansas coach Bill Self, who was ejected for the first time in 21 seasons at Kansas on Feb. 12 during a game against Texas Tech.

Self was asked recently if he has met with anyone at the Big 12 office about officiating and ejections. He has not and will not, he replied.

“I haven’t visited with one person from the conference office about that whatsoever, and I won’t. I won’t,” Bill Self said.

Other Big 12 coaches to be ejected this month include Scott Drew at Baylor and Kelvin Sampson at Houston. Self isn’t worried about that, though. He’s only focused on what’s happening with the Jayhawks.

“I’m not as interested in what happened at Houston or what happened at Baylor. I’m interested in what happens with us,” Self said. “But I haven’t made a phone call to the conference office about what transpired about that particular situation at all. Nor will I. Nor have I talked to anybody.”

Kansas suffered a 79-50 loss to Texas Tech in the game Self was ejected, before bouncing back to beat Oklahoma last Saturday.

Now the Jayhawks will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday against Texas. Tip off is set for 6 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPN.

Bill Self on Big 12 race: ‘We don’t have any margin for error’

March has almost arrived, and the top five spots in the Big 12 Conference are separated by two games.

Kansas is two games back from Houston in the top spot — and if things go the Jayhawks’ way, all signs will be pointing toward a season finale road trip to battle the Cougars with the winner emerging as the Big 12’s 2024 regular season champion. However, head coach Bill Self sees four obvious obstacles ahead of his team before they get there: TexasBYUBaylor and Kansas State.

“In our situation, holding serve at home is really important,” Self said on Thursday. “We don’t have any margin for error, but I’m not looking at it the way that maybe some people are looking at it. I’m looking at, hey, let’s try to win one game at a time and we can’t control what other people do and whatever happens, happens. But as long as we take care of our business, we get a chance to have a really good year in our league.

“Now, whether or not that means having the chance to play for anything of the highest stakes against Houston remains to be seen. We better go 4-0 if we’re going to do that but the best way to win them all is to win the first one. If you don’t win the first one that certainly eliminates all those desires. So yeah, we’re just worried about Texas.”
