Details revealed in rape allegation against former Kansas, Texas basketball player Arterio Morris
Former Kansas and Texas basketball player Arterio Morris was dismissed from the Jayhawks recently after being charged with rape and arrested by local authorities. An affidavit, obtained by the Kansas City Star, detailed further the allegations against Morris.
Morris, according to witness testimony taken during a Sept. 1 interview, allegedly raped the 18-year-old victim in a room in the dorm where Kansas basketball players commonly live, McCarthy Hall, days prior. Morris allegedly pulled the victim on to his lap despite her saying she “didn’t want to do anything” repeatedly.
The identity of the victim and other witnesses was redacted in the affidavit.
Morris allegedly eventually pinned the victim down by her neck and throat after she tried to get off him. She continued to tell him to stop, per the affidavit, before eventually she “gave up” and waited for Morris to be done.
“Stop. This really hurts,” the victim said, per the affidavit.
She quickly told two witnesses in a nearby room what had happened, per the affidavit. The KC Star reported that a source confirmed this timeline, and said one of the two people the victim shared the story with was a Kansas basketball player who was not involved in the incident. Multiple KU men’s basketball players have been listed as witnesses in the case in various documents.
Per the affidavit, Morris said he “stopped having sex with” the victim before later changing his account to say he didn’t have sex with her at all.

Morris has been charged with a felony in relation to the alleged rape. He was originally suspended from the team. The charge carries a potential prison sentence ranging from just more than 12 years to more than 54 years and up to a $300,000 fine and three years of supervision post-release.
Morris has previously been charged with misdemeanor assault for an alleged altercation between Morris an ex-girlfriend in June 2022 that took place in Frisco, Texas. That took place shortly before Morris began his freshman season at Texas.
His ex-girlfriend “told police Morris grabbed her arm and pulled her off a bed, then grabbed the front of her sports bra, which she said caused (an) injury on her neck. Police reported seeing a 3-inch abrasion on the woman’s neck and arrested Morris on a charge of assault causing injury to a family member, which includes dating relationships in Texas” according to an AP story posted on ESPN.
